Difference Between Joist and Beam | Difference
Size of Joist and Beam. Beams transfer their loads vertically to columns or foundations. They may receive their loads on a vertical or horizontal face. Joists rest on top of beams or may be fastened to the sides of beams. The standard size of a beam used in a building is 9,by,12 inches (230 mm x 300mm), mainly used in residential buildings.

Can I tuck the beam and attach joists with
if the beam he installed under the floor joist is sized to hold up the weight then a flush header or beam would be the same. I never have heard of a code issue in doing a properly sized flush beam. If you have plumbing running thru the joist or wiring that cannot be located then that would be different.
Formwork beams -
Doka timber formwork beams are the basis for many Doka formwork systems and have a wide range of uses_ Hundreds of thousands of these carefully manufactured beams do sterling service on countless construction sites every day_
LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) Beam Code For Drilling Holes
If you are ever working with LVL beams check the codes. I drilled 2 : 7/8" holes through a 3" X 10" LVL ridge beam in the incorrect area and the inspector failed the job. The holes were supposed to be drilled in the center 1/3 area of the 10" beam and I drilled them in the outer 1/3 area of the 10" beam.
LVL vs using I beams - Fine
Three problems 1) beam needs two lally columns in places I’d like to keep open. 2) beam price is killing me and 3) hanging floor joists just doesn’t seem the strongest way to set a floor system. I’d also have a bump at bottom of beam to finesse around because of dimensional differences between the 2X10 and the LVL.
hySPAN+® LVL Beam » CHH LVL
hySPAN+ ® offers an alternative to F17 hardwood beams for construction in traditional sizes` hySPAN+ provides enhanced characteristic structural properties in sizes to suit F17 hardwood conversion` hySPAN+ is widely available in long continuous lengths in thicknesses of 35mm and 45mm and section depths from 90mm to 290mm`
What size and beam construction (LVL ?)to carry the ceiling
What size and beam construction (LVL ?)to carry the ceiling of a ranch house· The ceiling joist span 15 feet on either side of support beam for a total of 30 feet· The support beam will be centrally located and span 20 feet across the joist creating a 30 x20 room· Ceiling would be skim coated 5/8 thick sheetrock, no loading above the ceiling·
